We have added a panel which allows you to view all meta data which is present in an image. In addition to typical exif/XMP meta data, the file info like owner/group of an image and its thumbnail are displayed in this panel.
Tim Jerman added a support for zip archives (besides some awesome plugins) within the Google Summer of Code 2014. This feature will allow you to browse images in zip archives without extracting them first. That’s nice so far… the really cool thing is that you can additionally browse through images in Microsoft Office Documents such as Word, PowerPoint.

What does “Compression:4” means?
Is it “CCITT T.6 bilevel encoding/Group 4 facsimile compression”?
yes – we’ll add the corresponding string here in the upcoming release, thanks!
Any plans to add metadata editing? What I’m looking for is tags (keywords) to allow for fast image tagging and later filtering. Your #1 competitor, XnView MP, does this quite poorly – http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=31862#p137292.
I second this. Gthumb also is rather poor at this, and so far I’ve had to hack together my own keyword system. https://github.com/Gantron1/gthumb-keywords
It’d be nice to find an image viewer that does this well, as there doesn’t seem to be one yet.
thanks! I have added it to our bugtracker: https://github.com/nomacs/nomacs/issues/136
Can you make the thumbnails pane movable to the left or right side of the screen?
Thanks.
we have added this now (see: http://www.nomacs.org/redmine/attachments/download/97/img-2014-09-28%2011.42.17.png). you can additionally undock the thumbnail pane (and thus change it similar to the metadata widget presented here)
